Utah Lawyers for the Arts, Dance Theatre Coalition, and Utah Museum of Contemporary Art Present a Business Workshop for Artists.
Salt Lake City
– Utah Lawyers for the Arts (ULA) and Dance Theatre Coalition (DTC) in
partnership with Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) present a
one-day intensive seminar to help artists improve their business
practices on Saturday, April 27th from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at UMOCA.
The
career development workshop is designed to help artists learn more
about how to run their business and how to use laws to protect their
rights. The day will be divided into three parts: 1) the ins and outs of
contract negotiation. This session is aimed to give artists a better
understanding of standard contractual terms and how to protect
themselves and their work. 2) Break down the professional writing
process. This session will teach artists how to use professional writing
skills to promote themselves and their work and 3) editing help for
those craving feedback from a knowledgeable outside eye. This session is
created to give artists hands-on practice to improve their writing
skills.
Artists
working in all disciplines of visual, performing, media, and literary
arts are welcome. Participants can attend the full-day program or choose
to attend any single session.
Heather
Sneddon, the workshop presenter, is a shareholder at Anderson &
Karrenberg and has years of experience in the art-related area. She
serves on the Boards of Trustees for the ULA and the Board of Directors
for the DTC. Sneddon has expanded her law practice to include local and
national artists, having represented individuals involved in installations and performances at the University of Utah and The Leonardo.
“We
are very pleased to partner with Utah Lawyers and the Arts and Dance
Theatre Coalition to offer such a rare and important program,” says
Sarina Ehrgott, Marketing Director at UMOCA. “UMOCA is always looking
for ways to reach out to our local talent and grow their careers.”
