Organizational Background:
The Salt Lake City Arts Council is the local arts agency for the capital city of Utah providing programs and services. The mission is to promote, present, and support artists, arts organizations, and art activities in order to further the development of the arts community and to benefit the public by expanding awareness, access, and participation. The Arts Council is a division in the Salt Lake City Department of Community & Economic Development and a nonprofit organization.
Job Description:
This full-time position reports to the Executive Director of the Arts Council. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, coordinating and implementing visual art and literary programs and services city-wide as well as at the Finch Lane Gallery/Art Barn. This includes the management and oversight of budgets, review and selection processes for art submissions, promotion and production of exhibits and public programs, and supervision of seasonal and contracted employees. This position also provides curatorial insight and direction to the agency's policies, programs, fundraising and initiatives as well as technical assistance to the public for visual and literary arts. This position also presents the Arts Council in a professional capacity at the local, state, regional and national level and engages funding organizations and individuals through grant writing and general development activities. In addition, this position oversees the management of the facility including rentals, repairs and maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Arts Administration or a closely related field plus four years' professional experience in arts administration, at a public or private arts agency or organization. Masters degree and experience with visual arts programs are preferred. Experience and education may be substituted, one for the other, on a year-for-year basis.
