NEWS: Trolley Square Welcomes Ballet West to New Studio Space

Trolley Square Welcomes Ballet West to New Studio Space
Company, Academy dancers in two new studios, administrative offices also on site

SALT LAKE CITY – Pointe shoes and pliés are the latest addition to Trolley Square in downtown Salt Lake City, the new home for Ballet West during reconstruction of the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatreand the adjoining Jesse Eccles Quinney Ballet Center.

Ballet West’s professional company and the Ballet West Academy dancers rehearse daily in two new studios built specifically for the organization, whose administrative offices also relocated to Trolley Square.

“Ballet West is a cornerstone of Utah’s arts community and an institution in Salt Lake City,” said Khosrow Semnani, the owner of Trolley Square. “Like Capitol Theatre, we hope Ballet West dancers feel a sense of history and community spirit at Trolley Square, which has long been dedicated to serving as a community centerpiece.”

The Artists of Ballet West will be at Trolley until October 2014. The Ballet West Academy, the official school of Ballet West, will utilize the studios at Trolley Square permanently.

“Relocating to Trolley Square has been perfect for Ballet West,” said Artistic Director Adam Sklute. “In addition to meeting our professional company’s needs for temporary studio space, this move also offers a fantastic opportunity for our Academy. While our new building is under construction, our school has the space needed to continue quality dance education, and once our new building is completed, Trolley will, in effect, become a satellite location for our Academy for years to come.”

Members of the media are invited to observe Ballet West dancers rehearsing in their new space. To make arrangements, please contact Jodie Fisher, (801) 869-6922 or jfisher@balletwest.org.
