SPY HOP PRODUCTIONS UNVEILS 10 YEARS OF PITCHNIC FILMS ONLINE

Salt Lake City, UT (September 20, 2012) - 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of Spy Hop Productions' PitchNic film program. Conceived in 2002 as an innovative way to unite young filmmakers with local supporters of independent film, this year-long intensive film class has helped more than 100 Utah teens produce 36 films that have screened at festivals around the world.  In celebration of this work, Spy Hop has re-released all of the films, which will be available online at www.spyhop.org/pitchnic10 for free between now and November 8, which is the public premiere of the 2012 films.

This site is a great look back at what teens have had to say over the last 10 years, some of which may surprise you.  If you’re new to the program and need some direction, watch the trailers of some crowd favorites.

Rock is in the Air (2010) – a mockumentary of epic proportions about an earnest, hard-working air band.
The Antagonist (2009) – The story of a character’s desperate attempt to transform from antagonist to protagonist.
Jerry (2006) – Jerry, a zombie, struggles in his lowly office job and pines for the popular girl.
Two Loves (2006) – Explores the relationship between homosexuality and religion through the stories of those who have personally confronted a conflict between the two.
Mother Superior (2005) - A mom is supposed to be perfect, but that is often far from the truth in this examination of meth addiction in Utah.

About Spy Hop Productions

Our mission is to encourage free expression, self-discovery, critical and inventive thinking, and skilled participation via the big screen, the airwaves, and the web. Recognized by the White House as one of the top arts and humanities based organizations in the country, Spy Hop was chosen as a finalist for the 2010 National Arts and Humanities Youth Award given by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.

About PitchNic
The PitchNic film program (named for the “pitch” that each student must make for their film idea) is an intensive yearlong class where twelve Utah students ages 16 - 19 work on four films; two narrative and two documentary.  Students study film styles and work on story concepts and then pitch to a panel made up of Spy Hop alumni and local film professionals.  The winning ideas move into production and the students separate into teams and work with a budget, hire actors, rent gear, set up interviews, manage a crew, and secure locations.  Students then use the summer to shoot their films and enter post-production in the fall.
