DECEMBER ACTIVITIES & EVENTS AT THE OGDEN NATURE CENTER
 
Holiday Open House & Local Art SaleSaturday, December 1 from 9 am - 4 pm
Free admission for everyone, all day.  All ages welcome!
Enjoy holiday shopping and free gift wrapping. Nancy Grisanti Clark will host a children’s craft from 2-4 pm. Fresh, evergreen holiday swags and centerpieces will be for sale – come early for the best selection!  Special items this year include hand-made cutting boards by David Wolfgram.  The boards are made from wood from the Nature Center property.  Also, small potted succulents which make perfect neighbor gifts.  The Nest Gift Shop features nature related books, stationary, toys, games, art, birdfeeders, jewelry, casual clothing and market baskets.  After shopping, bundle up and wander the nature preserve’s wintry trails! There will be free hot chocolate and a bake sale of goodies prepared by the Nature Center’s Board of Directors in the yurt.  Local artists include:
• Nancy Grisanti Clark: watercolor paintings
• Cathy Cartwright: recycled wool sweater animals
• Briani Robinson: handmade jewelry 
• Stephanie Wisely: Our Children’s Earth: upcycled sweaters and handmade stocking stuffers from recycled materials
• Lisa Herland: Moonlighting Mermaid: handmade and custom made jewelry
 
Wild Wednesdays - Accipiters, Aces of the Forest Wednesday, December 5 at 3:45 pm
Free for ONC members
$2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
All ages welcome
Sharpies! Coops! Goshawks!  Utah is home to these three types of accipiters, also known as the true hawks.   Meet the Ogden Nature Center’s own goshawk and discover how accipiters survive in forests. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Preschool Discovery Days – Plants and Animals Prepare for Winter
Choose a date and time:
Friday, December 7 or Monday, December 10
9:30 am, 11 am or 1 pm on any of the dates
$5 per child/parent members
$6 per child/parent non-members 
General admission rates apply to all other family members.  Group/preschool registration (5 or more students) - $5 per child/parent.   Teachers and classroom aids are free.   A 50% non-refundable deposit is required. Pre-registration required. Call 801-621-7595 to register.  Ages: 3-5. Migrate through nature in autumn and find out how your feathered friends generate energy during the cold winter months. Visit the bear den and get a feel for hibernation. Discover seed dormancy and why trees shed their leaves.
 
Holiday Wreath Making WorkshopSaturday, December 8 from 11 am – 12:30 pm
$30 members/ $35 non-member
Age: 8+
Come get your swag on! Join teacher/naturalist Cheyenne Herland for a fun and informative class that will have each participant creating hand-formed wreaths to decorate their home for the holiday season. You bring the laughter, we’ll supply the rest, including a history of wreaths and other botanical holiday decor. Space is limited. Please RSVP by 4 pm, Friday the 7th to 801-621-7595.
 
Wild Wednesdays - Snugglers, Sleepers and SnoozersWednesday, December 12 at 3:45 pm

What do animals do when the days get shorter, the weather gets colder, and the snow begins to fly? Some very special animals snuggle in for the winter and snooze for days, weeks, and even months at a time. Come learn about these amazing animals with one of the Ogden Nature Center’s teacher/naturalist. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Soda Can Jewelry WorkshopWednesday, December 12 from 6 – 7:30 pm 
$10 members / $12 non-members
All ages welcome
Up-cycle soda cans to make beautiful jewelry. Create a pair of earrings to take home and learn the patterns for making many more on your own. All materials will be 
provided.  This fun jewelry makes wonderful holiday gifts.  Please RSVP by 4 pm Tuesday, Dec. 11th to 801-621-7595. 
 
Scout SaturdaysSaturday, December 15

10 am - Conservation
11 am - Venomous Reptiles
$5 per scout
The Ogden Nature Center provides the perfect outdoor classroom for scout activities. Have an ONC teacher/naturalist help your scout pass off merit badge requirements during these 45-minute classes.

Discover how animals use snow to travel, build homes, and even hide from predators. Don’t forget your hats, gloves, and snow boots! Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Please note:
The Ogden Nature Center will be closed from 1 pm on Monday, December 24 through Tuesday, January 1.  We will re-open on Wednesday,  January 2, 2013.
 
Class sizes are limited to ensure a quality experience.  Call in reservations over the phone and pay with a credit card or come in person to pay with cash or checks.  The Ogden Nature Center reserves the right to change instructors or cancel classes due to circumstances beyond our control including, illness, inclement weather or low attendance.  The Ogden Nature Center is located at 966 W. 12th Street in Ogden, Utah.
