Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: A community of keyboard performers comes together for a one night only spectacular concert. Southern Utah University’s Department of Music presentsPiano Extravaganza on Wednesday, November 28, 2012. The performance starts at 7:30pm at Cedar City’s Heritage Center Theater. Tickets are $6 for Adults, $4 for SUU faculty/staff and $3 for youth. SUU students are free with a valid I.D. card.
Piano Extravaganza, under the supervision of Dr. Christian Bohnenstengel, features a variety of pianists from SUU and the region. Performers include youngsters, SUU piano students and local musicians. The stage will be set with four grand pianos, allowing for up to sixteen hands to play at the same time. Ranging from the classics to standards, the program will include such works as Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sheep May Safely Graze, Kevin Olson’s At the Robot Factory, Franz Schubert’s Military March No. 1, Op. 51 and When the Saints Go Marching In. In addition to Dr. Bohnenstengel, conductors include Mary Anne Andersen,Sasha Bainson, Rachelle Jensen, Kendra Leavitt, Jacob Lee and Katherine Lee.
Dr. Christian Bohnenstengel feels equally at home in a wide range of musical genres. He was recently featured as soloist in Mozart's Concerto in E-flat Major for Two Pianos, as pianist in a chamber production of Gian Carlo Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief and as organist in a performance of John Rutter's Gloria. Praised as "...a master of contrasts..." (Aalener Nachrichten) and for his ability to "...put the audience into a state of sheer awe..." (Gmünder Tagespost), Mr. Bohnenstengel has concertized on three continents, including recitals with flutists John Bailey and Javier Montilla in Venezuela and various solo and chamber music performances at the annual Sommernachtsmusik in Mögglingen, Germany. Mr. Bohnenstengel received his Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in piano performance from Missouri Western State University. He earned Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Bohnenstengel currently teaches at Southern Utah University.

The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a Center for Shakespeare Studies and a graduate program in Arts Administration.
