OUTreach Resource Center and Weber State University Center for Diversity and Unity present “The Fantabulous Holiday Fête,” Saturday, 15 December, 8 pm in the Shepherd Union Ballrooms, WSU campus. A Fête?! What’s a Fête? “A fête or fete is an elaborate festival, celebration or party. They are often organized by an ad hoc committee of volunteers from organizations.” (Wikipedia) This fête is a funny fund-raiser in support of OUTreach.* A Donor Reception will begin at 6:00 pm in the Kimball Visual Art Center, WSU campus.

The program follows the established tradition of this event, which includes an Ugly Sweater contest, so come prepared.  The floor show features entertainment by members of the Associated Actors and Technicians (A.A.T.) of Weber State including Maddie Tarbox, as The Diva. The MCs are WSU Musical Theatre graduate, Sean Bishop, and graduating Musical Theatre major, Mickey Pace Larsen. Nic Maughan is the accompanist. The script for the show was written by Dr. Jennifer Kokai, WSU Theatre assistant professor, and creates roles for department store Elves (Taylor Knuth, David Higley, Josh Robinson, Emilie Starr, and Katelin Jones) and a number of other denizens of holiday tales through the ages, including The Ghost of Christmas Past. Expect great singing and dancing and a funny script interspersed by contributions from the members and supporters of the OUTreach Resource Center.

This fund raiser supports OUTreach, meeting regularly in the lower level of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden, 705 23rd Street, providing a safe, comfortable haven for open-minded youth, especially LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning) youth and their friends and allies; free of charge, judgment, harassment and discomfort. It is a drug, alcohol, tobacco, hate and violence free zone. The center is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-8:00 pm, for ages 14 -23. More information about OUTreach and its other activities can be found at ogdenoutreach.org
OUTreach Board President Jeff Lensman notes, “Not enough of our youth know we are here for them. We have heard about an increasing number of suicides involving LGBTQ young people as a result of bullying in their schools, sometimes from family members, making it vitally important that we step up our efforts to make our presence known to as many people as possible. Suicide happens only when there is no hope left. OUTreach fosters an environment where there is always more hope, lasting friendships, and a safe space where kids can be themselves and continue their development into becoming healthy and affirmed citizens of our communities.”

Premier Sponsors of this event include WSU Associated Actors & Technicians, QSalt Lake, Slug Magazine and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden
