Food, Music, Dance and Crafts at the Salt Lake City & County Building
Free and Open to the Public
The Salt Lake City Arts Council presents the twenty-sixth annual Living Traditions Festival on May 20, 21 & 22, on the grounds of the Salt Lake City & County Building (450 South 200 East). The festival is the kick-off of the city’s outdoor event season, heralding the beginning of summer and celebrating the diversity of our ethnic community through the arts.
In addition to dozens of performances, crafts demonstrations, games and activities, the 2011 Living Traditions Festival will present special guest artists Bomba Estéreo (from Bogota, Colombia) at 7:00 p.m., and Vieux Farka Touré at 8:30 p.m. (from Mali, Africa) on Friday night; and Boukman Eksperyans (from Port-au-Prince, Haiti) at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The Living Traditions Food Market offers an array of traditionally prepared foods by twenty local ethnic groups. The bocce ball courts are packed throughout the event.
Admission is free and festival hours are: Friday, May 20, 5 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, May 21, noon to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, May 22, noon to 7 p.m.
