Downtown Alliance Announces 2010 Achievement Awards Winners

Salt Lake City - Exceptional contributions to Salt Lake City’s downtown will be recognized in the 16th Annual Downtown Achievement Awards, presented by the Downtown Alliance, on June 30, 2011.

2010 Achievement Award Winners:
Scott Beck, CEO, Visit Salt Lake: Scott brings great leadership, vision and passion to the Salt Lake hospitality community. His uninhibited excitement for what Salt Lake offers as a travel destination is contagious throughout the community and helps create a tremendous economic impact.

Salt Lake Arts Council for the Twilight Concert Series: As tens of thousands of people poured into the capital city every Thursday night for eight summer weeks, business boomed in the Pioneer Park neighborhood and downtown—and Utahns engaged with their urban center.

Richard Wirick, Oxford Shoe Shop: The title of “Mr. Downtown” was bestowed on Richard Wirick by Salt Lake County mayor, Peter Corroon, for his dedication and commitment to serving tirelessly for the betterment of the downtown Salt Lake City business environment. Aside from being the owner/manager of the longest thriving shoe store for men in Salt Lake City, he still manages to make time to actively serve on six civic organizations.

Royal Eatery: The Royal Eatery has been owned and operated by the Priskos family for more than 40 years in the same spot on the corner of 400 South and Main Street. It is one of downtown’s longest operating restaurants and a fixture in Utah’s dining history.

Achievement Awards are given to individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the Central Business District, helping to build a more dynamic and diverse community that is the regional center for culture, commerce and entertainment.

Save the date: Thursday, June 30, noon-1:30 pm at the Marriott City Center (220 South Street). The Downtown Alliance will formally present the Achievement Awards and provide a progress report on downtown Salt Lake City projects and economic prospects.

The Downtown Alliance is dedicated to building a dynamic and diverse community that is the regional center for culture, commerce and entertainment. For more information, visit downtownslc.org.
