Nebo Junior Highs Showcase Artwork at the Covey Center
(PROVO, Utah) Art Linkletter used to say, “Kids say the darndest things!” The new art exhibit, Living - Learning - Creating, opening Friday, May 6, at the Covey Center for the Arts shows that not only do kids say the darndest things, they create the darndest things, too.
Living - Learning - Creating is composed of artwork from six Nebo School District junior high schools. Art teachers from each of the schools have carefully selected the best of their students’ work from the school year just concluding to be included in the exhibit.
“The art teachers at our junior high schools are all artists themselves,” said Robyn Card, who teaches at Mapleton Junior High School, and coordinates the exhibit. “We meet together in our own PLC (Personal Learning Committee) once a month to collaborate and coordinate our efforts.” Card went on to explain that the Nebo School District is “very pro visual arts,” and is supportive of the efforts of the teachers and students.
The work in the exhibit is by seventh, eighth and ninth graders. The media is varied, and includes ceramics, sculpture, calligraphy, drawing, book sculpture, paper mache, and photography.
Living - Learning - Creating will run from May 6-27, 2011 in the Eccles Gallery at the Covey Center. The gallery is open during the Covey Center's normal business hours: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. till 6 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. till 2 p.m., and any time there is a performance at the Covey Center.
