UTRID (The Utah Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Student Involvement Committee is presenting a workshop for those interested in providing American Sign Language interpretation for theatre. This workshop is geared toward ASL Interpreting Students, but all interpreters are welcome. UTRID membership is required for attendance. Join UTRID at www.utrid.com.

Theatre interpreting is unlike any other style. It requires a unique blend of preparation and flexibility, an intense use of role shifting and facial expressions, and a flare of theatricality. Participants will learn the basics of preparing to interpret a play, then stay for the show to observe these principles in practice. Come learn the ins and outs of this amazing genre, and how to step into the spotlight without stealing the show.

6:30 pm: Hors d’oeuvres
7:30 pm: WSU Interpreted Production of “The Will Rogers Follies”
Location: Weber State University (3848 Harrison Blvd, Ogden, Utah)

About the Presenter: Amelia’s life-long passion for theatre, and her love for interpreting, makes theatrical interpreting her favorite job and pastime. Her experience includes interpreting performances such as “Signing Times Live!” with Rachel Coleman, “The Forgotten Carols”, multiple seasons at Weber State University, and is one of two recurring seasonal interpreters for the Tony Award winning Utah Shakespearean Festival. She is thrilled to be able to present this workshop and share her knowledge and passion for this exciting work.
