SUU´S BRAITHWAITE FINE ARTS GALLERY
SHOWCASES COLORFUL GRAPHICS IN
"THE PSYCHEDELIC EXPERIENCE: ROCK POSTERS
FROM THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, 1966-1971"
JANUARY 10 - FEBRUARY 2, 2013

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah:  A vibrant world of colorful and visionary graphics that celebrates the golden age of rock music is showcased at Southern Utah University´s Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery presents The Psychedelic Experience: Rock Posters from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1966-1971, January 10 through February 2, 2013. The posters can be seen at the Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery located on the lower level of the Braithwaite Building on SUU´s campus. The gallery´s winter hours are Tuesday-Saturday, noon-7pm. Admission is free, and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Prompted by the highly successful summer 2012 exhibition, The Psychedelic Years, Reece Summers, Gallery Director, and Ernesto Perez, Exhibition Curator and SUU Arts Administration graduate student, realized that patrons wanted to see more of the Braithwaite´s rock poster collection. According to Perez, "this past summer, patrons really enjoyed our first rock poster exhibition. When we told them that what was on display was only a small portion of the collection, everyone wanted to know when they could see more. This second exhibition features 50 posters that are genuine works of art that reflect the creativity of the psychedelic art movement."

The posters in the exhibition were created to promote concerts produced by the legendary Bill Graham and Chet Helms of Family Dog Productions at San Francisco´s historic rock palaces: the Fillmore Auditorium, Fillmore West and Avalon Ballroom. Artists represented included posters by Lee Conklin, Wes Wilson, David Singer, Greg Irons and Stanley Mouse. The bands and musicians captured by these artists include the Santana, Grateful Dead, Steve Miller Band, Country Joe and the Fish, Ten Years After, Moby Grape, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Jimi Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield, Mothers of Invention, The Byrds, B.B. King, Cream and many others. This vibrant exhibition is more than nostalgic - it captures an art that defined a generation and remains timeless.
Don´t miss this glorious celebration of art inspired by great music. Come to Southern Utah University to witness The Psychedelic Experience: Rock Posters from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1966-1971.
