SUU’S ART INSIGHTS TO FEATURE ALUMNA
GRAPHIC DESIGNER DANELLE CHENEY
JANUARY 31, 2013
Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: An SUU alumna who uses her graphic design skills to brand installations and exhibitions at major art museums and galleries, Danelle Cheney returns to the campus for a vibrant presentation entitled The Eight Best Pieces of Advice I Have Ever Been Given (That Are True). Her appearance is part of SUU’s Department of Art and Design’s weekly lecture series, Art Insights, and is scheduled for Thursday January 31st, 2013. The lecture begins at 7pm at Gilbert Great Hall, Hunter Conference Center. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.
A native to Utah, Danelle attended Southern Utah University where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Photography. While a student, she worked for the College of Performing and Visual Arts at SUU as a designer, which inspired her to continue a career in the arts. This inspiration led to an internship at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), where she created graphics for the exhibition Memery: Imitation, Memory, and Internet Culture. Now currently employed at the Cincinnati Art Museum, Danelle has developed identities for numerous exhibitions and events such as Nick Cave: Meet Me at the Center of the Earth and the annual A Taste of Duveneck fundraiser. Her work consists of mainly print design and environmental graphics, with an emphasis on typography and photography. In her spare time, Danelle obsesses over typefaces and is currently in the final stages of designing her first font family which will be released via the Lost Type Co-op.
Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet weekly to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to attend.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear one of SUU’s own to talk about her experiences in creating a successful career in the visual arts! For more information on the SUU College of Performing and Visual Arts events, please call the Arts Hotline at (435) 865-8800, or visit www.suu.edu/arts.
