JESSICA GERLACH,
GRAPHIC DESIGNER,
JANUARY 24, 2013

Southern Utah University, Cedar City, Utah: Color and creativity come together when graphic designer Jessica Gerlach’s work is showcased in SUU’s Department of Art and Design’s inspiring weekly lecture series,Art Insights, on Thursday, January 24, 2013. The lecture begins at 7pm in the Gilbert Great Hall with SUU’s Hunter Conference Center. Admission is free and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Jessica Gerlach graduated with an MFA in Visual Communications at the University of Arizona. Jessica’s work is fueled by her commitment to use art and design to inform and educate the public about critical social, political, and environmental issues. Her most recent project in conjunction with the Rillito River Project’s Bat Night 2010 involved extensive interdisciplinary research and collaboration. The resulting public environmental installation informed an audience of about 5,000 people about key plant and animal species that have been lost with the deterioration of the riparian habitat in one of Tucson’s rivers. Previously, Jessica spent seven years as an arts-in-education program coordinator for the South Central PaARTners at Millersville University in Pennsylvania
Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the fall and spring semesters by SUU’s Art and Design faculty. Students and community members meet weekly to experience presentations and discussions by visiting artists and art educators from around the nation who share their work and insights and attend gallery openings. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to attend.
