UMOCA Announces Artists-In-Residence

Salt Lake City - Utah Museum of Contemporary Art is delighted to announce that Jared Lindsay Clark, Brian Patterson and Mary Toscano have been selected as the first artists-in-residence for UMOCA’s new long-term residency program designed expressly to meet the needs of artists living and working in Utah. Not only were these artists selected based on artistic merit by a panel of art world professionals, but also their commitment to work in a contemporary idiom and an eagerness to propel their careers to a national level.

“We are pleased to begin the residency program with these three artists,” says Curator of Education Jared Steffensen, “they each represent a cross section of the strong work being produced locally, specifically in sculpture, video and drawing.”

With generous backing from the Richard K. and Shirley S. Hemingway Foundation, the Utah Division of Arts and Museums, and the R. Harold Burton Foundation, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art will arrange meetings with national curators and critics who will be invited to give our residents career building opportunities and national visibility. In addition, UMOCA will support residents by offering workshops in professional development, monthly critiques, special access to visiting artists and lecturers, exhibition opportunities outside the museum, greater chances for community engagement and a week-long working vacation in rural Utah.

“We are excited to provide a system that will allow our artists to further refine their ideas and to develop their careers both inside and outside of Utah” says Steffensen.
